Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) said that 200 volunteers, including members of its senior management and employees, took part in its annual corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme at three care homes run by Malaysia’s Social Welfare Department (JKM).
The programme supported 255 residents, the group said in a statement on Wednesday. They are 170 elderly residents at Rumah Seri Kenangan Cheras and 85 children at Taman Sinar Harapan Ziyad Zolkefli Cheras and Rumah Kanak-Kanak Mini Cheras.
According to MAG, volunteers cleaned and tidied the homes, did gardening work, painted murals, and joined activities with the residents. At Rumah Kanak-Kanak Mini Cheras, MAG built a mini library using repurposed aircraft carpet to give children a place to read and learn. It also donated copies of Going Places, Malaysia Airlines’ inflight magazine, to encourage reading.
Nasaruddin said MAG’s commitment to excellence “goes hand-in-hand with our responsibility to society”, according to the statement. He said that seeing 200 employees, from leaders to frontline staff, serve the local community reflects what the group calls Malaysian hospitality.
He said that through its partnership with JKM, MAG aims to bring lasting positive change to the homes, with physical improvements as well as companionship and shared learning for residents.
The Malaysian paint brand PELAKA supplied the paint for the murals, and Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd donated 20 cartons of F&N SEASONS drinks, MAG said.
The group said the programme reflects its three CSR pillars of humanitarian work, the environment, and education.
