Air India Group will begin shifting some domestic and West Asia flight operations to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) from December 2026 as part of a phased transition linked to the redevelopment of Terminal 1 at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).
Air India Express will initially operate four daily domestic flights from NMIA from December, while services to Kuwait, subject to regulatory approvals, and existing services to Oman are planned to move from January 2027.
The airline group will progressively transfer Air India Express services to Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam, Doha, Muscat, and Sharjah to the new airport. The transition is expected to be completed by the IATA Northern Summer 2027 season, according to a joint announcement by Air India Group and Adani Airports on October 25.
The move is intended to support the redevelopment of Terminal 1 at CSMIA and the development of Mumbai’s dual-airport system. The companies said operating from both airports would provide travellers with more options and support connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Adani Airport Holdings Limited welcomed the planned transition. Navi Mumbai International Airport is being developed with advanced technology, multimodal transport links, and infrastructure designed to accommodate future growth, the announcement said.
Passengers travelling on affected routes should check their booking details and flight information with the airline before departure.
