Samangan’s Manigaon Shimul (silk cotton) Garden, recognized as Asia’s largest, has become a major tourist attraction during spring season, drawing visitors from across the country to witness its crimson blooms.

Garden spreads across 100 bigha (0.1338 square kilometers) land in Taherpuir upazila’s Manigaon area, featuring three thousand Shimul trees planted in 2000 by then Badhaghaat Union Chairman Joynal Abedin. Scenic location beside Jadukata River with Meghalaya hills backdrop has enhanced its natural appeal significantly.

Spring festival was organized on first day of spring, featuring songs of Shah Abdul Karim and Hasan Raja alongside traditional dance performances. Visitors enjoyed horse riding through the garden and photography sessions amidst the red-hued landscape.

Garden owner Rakab Uddin acknowledged infrastructure improvements but stressed need for better visitor facilities.

“Communication system has improved somewhat compared to before”, he told media, noting security measures have been strengthened to ensure visitor safety.

Monjurul Haque Chowdhury Pavel, district cultural officer, Shilpa Kala Academy, Sunamganj official expressed satisfaction with hosting spring festivities in such natural surroundings.

“We are fortunate to organize Basanta celebration in this vast environment”, he told media, hoping the festival's spirit would inspire progress in Bengali arts, literature, culture, education, politics and economy.

Visitors praised the unique setting but called for enhanced rest areas and amenities. Construction of bridge over Jadukata River is expected to increase tourist footfall once completed.

Local authorities confirmed they had received applications for infrastructure development and work has begun accordingly. Garden management has prioritized safety arrangements to prevent any untoward incidents during peak tourist season.
