The mortal remains of Dipali Akter, a Bangladeshi worker who lost her life in an airstrike in Lebanon, have been returned to her homeland.

Her body arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka late Thursday night, aboard a flight from the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam was present at the airport to formally receive the remains on behalf of the government.

The Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment confirmed the repatriation in an official press release.

Dipali Akter was killed on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, when a devastating Israeli airstrike struck the Hamra neighbourhood of Beirut, where she had been residing with her employer's family. The attack claimed the lives of her employer and several other members of the household as well.

The repatriation ceremony at the airport was attended by senior government officials, including Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Ahmaddul Haque, Director General (Consular & Welfare) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dewan Ali Ashraf, and Director General of the Wage Earners' Welfare Board Md. Asaduzzaman.

Dipali’s death comes amid an intensifying military campaign in Lebanon, with a rising death toll among civilians across Beirut and beyond. Her tragic fate highlights the extreme vulnerability of Bangladeshi migrant workers in conflict zones and raises urgent questions about the adequacy of protections for them when host countries descend into war.
