Baunia Embankment near Shahjalal Airport draws crowds for close-up views of aircraft, creating an unexpected tourist attraction.

New and bustling tourist spot has emerged in Dhaka, offering thrilling, close-up views of aeroplanes. Located in Bawnia, west of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, the Baunia Embankment has become a popular destination for families and aviation enthusiasts.

Dozens of visitors gather daily at this spot, which sits directly beside the airport's main runway. From this unique vantage point, people can watch aircraft land and take off from just a short distance away. Excitement is palpable as another plane lands, its massive form gliding directly overhead.

One visitor, there with his family, explained his reason for coming. “Today is my flight day, and you do not usually get to see planes like this up close”, he said. “I have never boarded a plane in my life, never seen one from this close. That is why I came here with my family to get a better view before our trip”.

What started as a curious pastime has now grown into a significant local attraction. From afternoon through the evening, visitor numbers continuously increase. This area in Bawnia has effectively transformed into a dedicated plane-watching destination, offering a unique form of urban tourism for Dhaka's residents.
