The government today appointed Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Dr Humayra Sultana as Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Limited as an additional charge.
The information was disclosed in an office order issued today by the Biman-1 wing of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.
The order stated that, under Section 30(ga) of the Bangladesh Biman (Repeal of the Bangladesh Biman Order, 1972, Reinstatement and Amendment) Act, 2023, Dr Humayra Sultana has been assigned the responsibilities of MD and CEO of Biman Bangladesh Airlines as an additional charge.
She will continue in this role until a new MD is appointed, it added.
Meanwhile, the same office order said that the government has cancelled the contractual appointment of MD and CEO Dr Md Safiqur Rahman, as he has been imprisoned after being accused in a criminal case.
The office order was signed by Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Mosammat Shakila Parvin.
Notably, Police have arrested four people, including Biman Bangladesh Airlines former Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Shafiqur Rahman and his wife Bithi, from capital’s Uttara around 3:30 am on Sunday in connection with a case filed over the alleged abuse of an 11-year-old child domestic worker. They were later produced before a court on Monday afternoon, where Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Raju Ahmed ordered that they be sent to jail.
