Emirates has become the first airline in the world to introduce the U-Dream Headrest, a multi-way adjustable headrest for Economy Class passengers, the carrier said in a statement.

The leather headrest, part of Emirates' new Z400 seat developed with Safran Seats, features flexible side wings that fold inward to cradle the head and neck during sleep, preventing it from falling forward or sideways. It also moves vertically and tilts to suit passengers of different heights and body types.

The airline said the headrest has been independently tested and verified to meet European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) standards and is backed by a significant investment as installation gets under way across the fleet.

Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline, said the innovation was designed to significantly improve comfort for Economy Class passengers, especially those travelling long-haul.

The headrest is currently flying on three A350 aircraft, with Emirates saying all its A350s will have it installed by the end of the year. It will also come pre-fitted on all 270 Boeing 777X jets on order and will begin rolling out on retrofitted A380 and 777 aircraft from 2027.

Emirates operates an all-widebody fleet of A380, A350, and Boeing 777 aircraft and offers Economy Class passengers amenities including complimentary Wi-Fi through Starlink, an inflight entertainment library of more than 6,500 channels, and multi-course meals on every flight.
