IOM, Bangladesh discuss strengthening safe and regular migration

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Government of Bangladesh have reaffirmed their longstanding partnership to strengthen migration governance and promote safe, orderly and regular migration.

According to IOM Bangladesh, the organization's Chief of Mission, Dr. Laura Tomm Bonde, met with Ariful Haque Choudhury, Minister of the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, on Monday.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen migration governance, expand safe, orderly and regular migration pathways, and enhance protection and sustainable reintegration services for Bangladeshi migrants.

The discussions also underscored the importance of implementing Bangladesh's Global Compact for Migration National Action Plan, strengthening institutional capacity, and promoting policies that maximize the positive impact of migration while safeguarding the rights and dignity of migrants.

IOM said both the organization and the Government of Bangladesh remain committed to ensuring that migration is safe, well-managed and contributes to sustainable development for people and communities.
