Dutch flag carrier KLM has taken delivery of its first Airbus A350-900, Airbus said, marking the introduction of the airline's latest-generation widebody for long-haul flying.
KLM, a member of the Air France-KLM Group, will use the aircraft as part of its ongoing fleet renewal. The airline currently operates ten A330 Family aircraft and 17 A321neos from Airbus, the manufacturer said on Friday.
The A350 will fly long-haul routes from KLM's home base at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, with Toronto named as one example of a destination.
The aircraft seats 331 passengers in three classes: 34 Business Class suites with direct aisle access, 26 Premium Comfort seats and 271 Economy seats.
Airbus said it designed the Airspace cabin to improve the long-haul experience for passengers and crew. It cited better ergonomics, larger luggage capacity, advanced ambient lighting and high-speed satellite connectivity.
According to Airbus, the A350 can fly up to 9,700 nautical miles (18,000 kilometres) non-stop. The manufacturer said its Rolls-Royce engines and lightweight materials deliver a 25 per cent advantage in fuel burn, operating costs and carbon dioxide emissions over previous-generation competitor aircraft. That comparison is Airbus's own claim.
At the end of August 2026, the A350 Family had won more than 1,620 orders from 69 customers worldwide, Airbus said.
The release carried no statements from KLM or Airbus officials.
