An Airbus A320 operated by Philippine Airlines (PAL) sustained damage to its tail fin on Tuesday night after being struck by a Saudia Airlines aircraft during ground maneuvering at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), Manila Times reported.
PAL management confirmed on Wednesday that its A320, registered RP-C8612, was hit by a Boeing 787 operating Saudia Airlines flight SV871.
Flight SV871, scheduled to depart for Jeddah, struck the tail of the parked A320 while taxiing, damaging the vertical stabiliser of the PAL aircraft, according to the report.
PAL said no passengers or crew were on board the parked aircraft at the time, and no injuries were reported.
Both aircraft were subsequently grounded due to the structural damage, forcing the cancellation of the Saudia flight to Jeddah, the report said.
The Philippine flag carrier said it is coordinating closely with relevant airport and aviation authorities, who are currently investigating the incident.
