Qatar Airways Drops Airbus A380 Plans for Doha–Guangzhou Route

Qatar Airways has scrapped plans to reintroduce its Airbus A380 on the Doha–Guangzhou route for the Winter 2026 schedule, opting instead to continue operating the service with the smaller Boeing 777-300ER.

The decision is part of a broader reduction in the airline’s Airbus A380 operations, as Qatar Airways continues to scale back the use of the superjumbo across its network compared with previous years.

The airline has also withdrawn A380 services from key destinations including Singapore and Sydney. As a result, only London Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle, and Bangkok are currently scheduled to receive regular Qatar Airways A380 flights during the upcoming winter season.

Although the Boeing 777-300ER offers lower passenger capacity and fewer premium seats than the Airbus A380, it provides sufficient capacity for the Guangzhou route while giving the airline greater operational flexibility as it continues to adjust its fleet deployment.

Despite the loss of A380 service, Guangzhou remains a strategically important destination for Qatar Airways. The route generates significant transfer traffic through Doha, with the majority of connecting passengers continuing their journeys to destinations across Africa.

The latest network adjustment reflects Qatar Airways’ continued focus on deploying aircraft more efficiently while maintaining service on high-demand long-haul routes.
