Saudi Arabia has imposed fines of up to SR 30 thousand (nearly TK 9 lakh 83 thousand) and travel bans of up to two years on citizens visiting prohibited destinations.

Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif, Minister of Interior, approved updated rules targeting unauthorised international travel. First-time offenders face maximum SR 30 thousand (nearly TK 9 lakh 83 thousand) fine and two-year travel ban. Repeat violations attract double fines with travel restrictions extended to five years.

Interior Ministry will determine list of restricted countries following necessary procedures. Analysts believe nations experiencing active conflict, political instability and security risks will be included. Afghanistan, Iran, Qatar, Syria and Libya are expected on the list, though government has not officially confirmed specific countries.

Penalties may increase if travel involves high-risk or conflict zones. However, regulations allow reductions in limited circumstances including family ties, transit stays under 48 hours or travellers aged 60 and above.

Authorities also imposed fines up to SR 5 thousand (nearly TK 1 lakh 63 thousand) for providing false information when applying for travel documents, alongside possible travel bans. More serious offences including document tampering, misuse or enabling others to use travel documents unlawfully could result in fines reaching SR 1 lakh (nearly TK 33 lakh) and travel bans up to five years. Such cases will be referred to Public Prosecution.

Saudi citizens living abroad must register passports with Saudi embassy or consulate. If passport is lost or damaged, embassy will issue new passport or return documentation.

Leaving or entering country through unauthorised ports also carries penalties under new regulations. Saudi government described measures as initiative to ensure citizen safety and maintain orderly international travel system.

Stricter enforcement comes amid regional tensions involving Iran, Israel and United States conflicts affecting Arabian Peninsula. Saudi Arabia remains vigilant regarding war zones, foreign espionage and security threats.
