Schengen Embassies in Dhaka warn: Visa does not guarantee entry

The embassies of Schengen states in Dhaka issued a joint public notice reminding Bangladeshi travelers that a valid Schengen visa does not entitle them to enter Schengen countries.

The notice, published today on the verified Facebook pages of the Schengen embassies in Dhaka in both English and Bangla, states that while a Schengen visa grants pre-clearance for travel, border police retain the authority to make the final decision on whether to permit entry to any individual traveler.

The advisory urges travelers to carry all required documents at the time of travel so that border authorities can verify their information if necessary.

The Schengen Area comprises 29 European countries that have abolished passport controls at their mutual borders, operating under a common visa policy. However, entry at external borders remains subject to checks conducted by national border authorities under the Schengen Borders Code.

Diplomatic missions issue this kind of advisory from time to time to make visa holders aware of their obligations and the conditions under which they may be denied entry, even with a valid visa.

Denial can result from insufficient proof of financial means, lack of travel insurance, inability to demonstrate the purpose of travel or discrepancies in documentation.
