US-Bangla to resume Kathmandu flights

One of the country's private carriers, US-Bangla Airlines, will resume scheduled flights between Dhaka and Kathmandu in September, ending a suspension of nearly seven and a half years.

The carrier said it plans to operate four weekly flights initially on the route using Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

US-Bangla suspended services to the Nepalese capital following the crash of one of its aircraft at Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport in March 2018. The airline has not operated scheduled flights on the route since then.

The resumption of services will restore a direct link between the capitals of Bangladesh and Nepal under US-Bangla's network and mark the airline's return to the Kathmandu market after an absence of about seven and a half years.

Kathmandu is particularly important for Bangladeshi travellers as it is a popular destination for tourism and business.

The route also frequently serves as a gateway for onward travel to mountaineering and adventure tourism destinations throughout Nepal.
