Airbus said last week it has finalised a contract to supply 10 H125 light helicopters to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Air and Marine Operations (AMO), expanding the agency's fleet to support law enforcement, border security, and public safety missions across the United States.

In a press release issued on July 7, the European aerospace manufacturer said the helicopters will be operated by CBP AMO to strengthen airborne surveillance, tactical operations, and homeland security missions under a fleet modernisation programme.

"The expansion of this H125 fleet underscores the long-standing collaboration between Airbus and U.S. Customs and Border Protection," said Bart Reijnen, Head of the North America Region for Airbus Helicopters.

"This selection highlights the trust placed in the H125 to perform critical public safety missions under demanding conditions. Airbus remains committed to supporting the agency with reliable aircraft and comprehensive services to ensure continuous mission readiness," he added.

Airbus said the H125 is designed to operate in demanding environments and is widely used for airborne law enforcement missions throughout North America. The single-engine helicopter offers multi-mission capability, allowing operators to conduct patrol, surveillance, and tactical operations while maintaining relatively low operating costs.

The aircraft will be manufactured at Airbus' helicopter production facility in Columbus, Mississippi. According to the company, the H125 has a dual-channel Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC), an engine data recorder, and a dual hydraulic flight control system, which are designed to reduce pilot workload and improve operational safety during complex missions.

The order forms part of CBP AMO's ongoing efforts to modernise its aviation fleet as it seeks to improve operational capabilities in border security and public safety missions. While the helicopters are intended primarily for government operations rather than commercial aviation, the contract further strengthens Airbus Helicopters' position in the North American public safety and law enforcement market.

The H125 is one of the world's best-selling light single-engine helicopters and is used globally in roles including law enforcement, emergency medical services, search and rescue, firefighting, and utility operations. Airbus said the latest order reinforces the aircraft's role in supporting specialised government missions while deepening its long-standing partnership with U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
