The Bangladesh Embassy in Libya has secured the release of 37 Bangladeshi nationals recently rescued by local law enforcement authorities.

Following completion of the necessary formalities, the Libyan authorities formally handed the individuals over to an embassy representative on 20 April 2026. All those released are reported to be in good physical health.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli confirmed the development in an official statement issued on Monday.

Following their release, Bangladesh's Ambassador to Libya, Major General Md. Habib Ullah, met with the returnees at the embassy premises, accompanied by the embassy's Counsellor (Labour) and First Secretary (Labour).

The Ambassador listened to their accounts and briefed them on the steps being taken to ensure their swift return home.

The embassy said it had been working closely since the rescue to gather documentation and complete all procedural requirements. It is currently coordinating with Libyan authorities and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to arrange repatriation as soon as possible.

The embassy also expressed gratitude to Libya's law enforcement agencies for their role in rescuing the Bangladeshi citizens.
