5-hour flight to nowhere: Power bank fire forces KLM flight to turn back

A power bank caught fire on board a KLM flight from Amsterdam to Curaçao on Thursday. After 5.5 hours on the plane, the pilot decided to turn flight KL735 around over the Atlantic Ocean and head back to Schiphol Airport.
The crew quickly noticed the fire and managed to extinguish it. No one was hurt, a spokesperson for the airline told RTL Nieuws.
After around 11 hours in the air, passengers were back at Schiphol Airport, landing at 8:40 p.m. They will be rebooked.
The next flight from Amsterdam to Curaçao is scheduled for Friday, but not all passengers will be able to take it. âIt is a very popular destination,â the spokesperson said.
KLM allows passengers to carry up to two power banks. They must be kept in hand luggage and remain visible, and passengers are not allowed to use or charge them on board.
