Private airline Air Astra today expanded its fleet to six aircraft with the arrival of its third brand-new ATR 72-600, doubling its fleet size in just over three months.
The aircraft, bearing registration S2-STF and manufacturer's serial number MSN-1823, arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport here, the airline said in a press release.
The latest delivery follows the addition of two other brand-new ATR 72-600 aircraft, bearing serial numbers MSN-1742 and MSN-1822, as the carrier expands its capacity to meet growing demand for domestic air travel.
The new aircraft is powered by Pratt & Whitney PW127XT engines and fitted with 72 Geven Neo Prestige seats.
"The arrival of our third brand-new ATR 72-600 is a landmark moment for Air Astra. With S2-STF, we have doubled our fleet to six aircraft, a remarkable milestone achieved within just over three months," Air Astra Chief Executive Officer Imran Asif said.
He said the expansion reflected the dedication of the airline's team and the confidence of its passengers and partners.
"As we continue to expand our fleet and network, our focus remains on providing safe, reliable, comfortable, and efficient air travel across Bangladesh," he added.
Air Astra is also working to introduce narrowbody aircraft as part of its plans to launch international services.
The airline said it targets the first quarter of 2027 for the start of international operations, subject to necessary regulatory approvals and operational readiness.
