Air India and Air India Express have revised the fuel surcharge on domestic and select international routes, citing a continued rise in aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices, the airlines said in a press release on Thursday.
The airlines said ATF prices have been volatile in recent months, driven largely by geopolitical developments and sustained pressure on global energy markets. The latest increase has further raised operating costs, with fuel remaining a substantial share of airline expenditure, the release said.
The airlines described the move as a âcalibrated revisionâ intended to partially offset the higher costs while allowing them to continue providing reliable, high-quality services across their networks.
The revised surcharge will be included in fares for new bookings made from 0000 hrs IST on October 9 for Air India Express and from 1100 hrs IST on October 9 for Air India. It varies by sector and route category and applies to itineraries to and from India.
On domestic routes, the one-way surcharge is:
0-500 km: INR 400
501-1,000 km: INR 600
1,001-1,500 km: INR 850
1,501-2,000 km: INR 1,200
Above 2,000 km: INR 1,200
On international routes, the one-way surcharge is:
North America: USD 215
Australia: USD 210
Europe (including the UK): USD 135
West Asia/Middle East: USD 55
The airlines said they will review surcharges periodically and make adjustments as the situation requires.
The release did not state the previous surcharge levels or the size of the increase, and it did not say how many routes are affected.
