Atlantic Airways orders two more A320neos

Atlantic Airways, the national airline of the Faroe Islands, has placed a firm order with Airbus for two A320neo aircraft, the European planemaker said on Tuesday.

The Faroe Islands are a self-governing Danish territory in the North Atlantic, between Iceland and Norway.

Airbus said the order supports the airline’s move to an all-A320neo fleet, which it said should bring operational synergies and simpler maintenance. Atlantic Airways currently operates four A320 Family aircraft, two A320ceo and two A320neo.

Niels Mortensen, Chairman of the Board of Atlantic Airways, said: “Our ambition is to operate an exclusively A320neo aircraft fleet in the near future”. He said the order is a significant step towards that goal and will help renew the fleet and support efficient operations.

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus Executive Vice President Sales for its Commercial Aircraft business, said the order shows the airline’s commitment to regional connectivity. He said Airbus looks forward to continuing to support efficient connections for Faroese communities.

Airbus said the A320 family has won more than 20,400 orders worldwide and calls it the world’s most popular single-aisle aircraft. The planemaker said the family offers at least 20 percent fuel savings and CO₂ reduction compared with the previous generation of single-aisle jets.

The release did not give the order’s value, delivery dates, or the engine type chosen.
