Bangladesh, AirAsia explore aviation cooperation, technology transfer opportunities

Bangladesh and AirAsia are exploring deeper aviation cooperation, with knowledge sharing and technology transfer in low-cost carrier operations, airport efficiency, digitalisation and aircraft maintenance emerging as key areas of engagement.

The discussions took place during a recent visit by a high-level Bangladesh delegation, led by State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M. Rashiduzzaman Millat, to RedQ, AirAsia Group's headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

The delegation included Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun and Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia Manjurul Karim Khan Chowdhury.

AirAsia Group CEO Bo Lingam welcomed the delegation and led discussions on the group's business and operating model, operational best practices and potential areas for wider aviation collaboration.

“We are honoured to welcome the delegation from Bangladesh to AirAsia and share our experiences across the aviation value chain. We hope the exchange provides useful insights into our operations and creates opportunities for continued knowledge sharing and technology transfer between our two markets,” Lingam said.

During an executive briefing, AirAsia and Capital A management shared insights into the low-cost carrier (LCC) model and highlighted the importance of an enabling policy and operational environment for sustainable LCC growth.

The discussions covered network and fleet strategies, airport efficiency, faster aircraft turnaround and measures to reduce operating costs, with a focus on making air travel more affordable and accessible.

The delegation also toured Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 with Ground Team Red (GTR), observing automated and self-service passenger processing, digital baggage systems and other technologies used to improve passenger flow, aircraft utilisation and operational efficiency.

As part of the programme, the delegation visited Asia Digital Engineering's (ADE) state-of-the-art 14-line maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility, gaining insights into modern aircraft maintenance and the role of engineering and technology in enhancing fleet reliability and performance.

The visit concluded with a dinner hosted by Capital A CEO Tony Fernandes in honour of Millat and Ashik.

During the engagement, the two sides exchanged views on aviation cooperation, tourism and investment and explored opportunities to contribute to the development of the aviation sectors of Bangladesh and Malaysia.

The visit reflected a shared interest in advancing knowledge exchange, technology transfer and mutually beneficial aviation cooperation between the two markets.
