Bangladesh High Commission (HC) in Kuala Lumpur will start accepting digital payments for all consular services from January 16, marking a major shift towards cashless transactions for Bangladeshi expatriates in Malaysia.
On Monday, it was informed through a press release signed by Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee, Head of Chancery at the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Bangladeshi nationals can pay fees for visas, attestations, travel permits and other consular services using debit cards or QR code scanning directly at the HC counter. Maybank Merchant Card Service has been installed at the consular service counter in Lorong Yap Kwan Seng area to facilitate the initiative.
However, traditional payment option through designated Maybank branches will continue alongside the new system. Service seekers will have flexibility to choose between digital counter payments or bank deposits based on their preference.
Malaysia hosts a substantial number of Bangladeshi migrant workers. Previous system required applicants to deposit fees at specific bank branches before processing their applications, often causing delays and inconvenience.
