Bangladesh Ambassador to the Maldives Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam personally handed over the air ticket to Fajr Ali, a Bangladeshi expatriate worker, using funds from the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board under the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment.

Fajr Ali, a resident of Chandina upazila in Cumilla district, had migrated to the Maldives legally with clearance from the Bureau of Manpower, Employment, and Training (BMET). He sustained serious injuries after hot water accidentally spilled on his feet while working as a chef at a guest house in Malé.

After receiving initial treatment at a local hospital, attending physicians advised that he return to Bangladesh for advanced medical care. As his passport and visa had expired, the Bangladesh High Commission issued a travel permit free of cost and completed all necessary arrangements for his return.

Ali is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on February 3, 2026, aboard a US-Bangla Airlines flight.

Expressing his sincere wishes for the worker’s speedy recovery, Ambassador Dr. Nazmul Islam said the High Commission remains committed to standing beside Bangladeshi expatriates in the Maldives. He added that ensuring proper medical care, welfare, and the rights of migrant workers is not only an obligation but also a moral responsibility, and the mission will continue to make every possible effort in this regard.
