Bangladesh, Italy eye stronger cooperation on migration

Bangladesh and Italy today discussed expanding ongoing cooperation to ensure safer and regular migration management.

According to a press release, the discussion was taken place when Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir held a meeting with Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh Antonio Alessandro at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon.

During the meeting, the two sides held fruitful discussions on further strengthening the longstanding friendly relations between Bangladesh and Italy and explored various issues of mutual interest.

The meeting reviewed existing migration cooperation and discussed ways to further strengthen collaboration for ensuring safe, orderly and regular migration between the two countries.

The Italian ambassador expressed Italy’s interest in importing quality products from Bangladesh, including ready-made garments, food products, leather and leather goods, while both sides also discussed exploring new avenues for expanding bilateral trade.

The Italian side also encouraged Bangladesh to procure modern technologies and industrial machinery from Italy, saying such cooperation could play an important role in modernising Bangladesh’s industrial sector.

To deepen cultural relations, Kabir invited renowned Italian football clubs to visit the country and take part in friendly matches, while both sides stressed enhancing people-to-people contacts and cultural exchanges.

Both sides expressed their firm commitment to taking Bangladesh-Italy relations to a new height and voiced optimism about strengthening cooperation in trade, defence, culture, sports, migration and other areas in the coming days.

Deputy Head of Mission of the Italian Embassy Federico Zamparelli was also present at the meeting.
