Bangladesh mission holds consular camp in Fuvahmulah Island, Maldives

The Bangladesh High Commission in the Maldives organised a special consular camp in Fuvahmulah Island, located nearly 500 kilometres from the capital, MalÊ, from September 11 to 13 as part of the government's efforts to bring essential services closer to the Bangladeshi expatriate community.
Led by High Commissioner Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam, a mission team provided consular services to a large number of Bangladeshi expatriates during the three-day camp. The mission team received around 100 e-Passport applications and 28 BMET card applications.

By delivering the services directly to Fuvahmulah, expatriates were spared the cost and inconvenience of travelling to MalÊ, including airfares, accommodation, meals, and local transportation, as well as the need to take leave from work for a long journey. Officials said such savings in time, money, and working hours are particularly significant for low-income migrant workers.
High Commissioner Nazmul Islam said the mission's objective is to ensure Bangladeshi expatriates do not have to spend unnecessary time, money, and working hours travelling to MalÊ for essential consular services, adding that the High Commission aims to take services directly to expatriates wherever possible, particularly those living on distant islands.
He said the welfare of expatriate Bangladeshis is not only an administrative responsibility but also a humanitarian one, noting that every worker's time, income, working hours, and personal hardship matter.
Expatriates who received services at the camp expressed appreciation for the initiative and requested that similar consular camps be organised regularly in Fuvahmulah and other distant islands of the Maldives.
The Bangladesh High Commission said it would continue efforts to bring e-Passport, BMET registration, welfare, and other essential consular services closer to Bangladeshi communities across the Maldives, in line with the government's expatriate-friendly policies.
The High Commission expressed appreciation to the relevant Maldivian authorities and the local administration of Fuvahmulah for their cooperation in facilitating the camp.
