Bangladeshi worker killed in Middle East conflict repatriated from UAE

The body of a Bangladeshi migrant worker killed after being struck by falling missile debris in the ongoing Middle East conflict arrived in Dhaka on Thursday.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam received the remains of Shah Alam at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA).

Also present at the airport were lawmaker S. M. Jahangir Hossain of the Dhaka-18 constituency, Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Secretary Md. Mokhtar Ahmed, and Foreign Secretary Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, the expatriates' welfare ministry said in a statement.

After being struck by missile debris in the midst of escalating hostilities in the UAE, Shah Alam was killed.

Thursday's repatriation follows the return of the body of another Bangladeshi worker killed in Bahrain on April 4. At the time, authorities said steps were being taken to strengthen diplomatic communication with host countries and ensure prompt support for those affected by the conflict.

Bangladesh has one of the largest overseas workforces in the Middle East, with millions of nationals employed across Gulf states. The recent escalation in regional hostilities has raised alarm over their safety and welfare.
