Bangladesh’s aviation sector at “tipping point” as demand for skilled workforce surges

Bangladesh’s aviation industry is entering a critical phase of expansion, with rising global connectivity and major infrastructure upgrades set to drive demand for a new generation of skilled professionals, experts said at a seminar.

The seminar titled “Aviation Profession in Bangladesh – Opportunities, Emerging Trends and Career Pathways” was organized today by the University of Asia Pacific (UAP), in collaboration with AVIANOMICS, at the UPA auditorium, Farmgate, Dhaka.

The seminar emphasized industry-academia collaboration while UAP and AVIANOMICS announced a strategic partnership to offer specialized training, guest lectures, and internships in aviation management, aeronautical engineering, and aviation safety.

The event was chaired by Professor Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, Acting Vice Chancellor of UAP, while K. M. Mozibul Hoque, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, UAP, was present as chief guest and Md. Saiyed Bin Abdullah, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh on Youth Employment, as the special guest.

The keynote was delivered by Prasanta Kumar Chakraborty, Aviation Expert, ICAO Certified Instructor, Founder of AVIANOMICS, and Director of the Civil Aviation Academy.

Chakraborty point out that the aviation industry in Bangladesh is at a tipping point. “With the expansion of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Internationalization of the Cox’s Bazar Airport, and growing global connectivity, we are looking at a demand for huge skilled aviation professionals in the next decade”, he added.

He also said that Aviation is no longer just about pilots and cabin crew--it is a high-tech career field for engineers, data analysts, and managers.

Saiyed Bin Abdullah emphasized that students should not wait until graduation to begin their careers. “Instead, they should start planning early and consider entrepreneurship as a way to create opportunities for themselves and others.”

He also noted that the current government will provide full support to emerging entrepreneurs.

Mentioning UAP will create certificate courses, workshops, and placement support to make students industry-ready, K. M. Mozibul Hoque said, “UAP is committed to bridging academic knowledge and industrial application. Our collaboration with AVIANOMICS is a testament to that vision.”

Professor Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan said, “This seminar has opened our eyes to career pathways from flight operations and air law to drone technology and green aviation. UAP will integrate aviation modules into our curricula and explore a minor in Aviation Management.”

Over 300 students, faculty, and professionals attended the seminar, followed by a Q&A session on scholarships, certifications, and AI in aviation. The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks from the UAP Department of Business Administration.
