A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Cox’s Bazar made an emergency landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon following a reported technical problem, prompting a temporary suspension of aircraft movements at the country's busiest airport.
The Dash 8-400 aircraft, operating flight BG-436, landed safely at 3:10 pm after reportedly circling over Dhaka for nearly 40 minutes, airport sources said.
All passengers and crew members were safe, Biman Bangladesh Airlines confirmed in an official statement issued after the incident.
According to airport sources, the aircraft departed Cox’s Bazar Airport at 1:35 pm and was scheduled to arrive in Dhaka at around 2:30 pm.
However, a reported technical malfunction prevented the flight from landing as scheduled, forcing the aircraft to remain airborne while preparations were made for its landing.
Airport authorities decided to keep the runway clear to facilitate the aircraft's safe arrival. Aircraft movements were consequently scheduled to remain suspended between 3:00 pm and 3:30 pm as a precautionary measure.
The aircraft eventually touched down safely at 3:10 pm without any reported injuries or other complications.
The number of passengers on board could not be immediately confirmed.
In an official statement, Biman Bangladesh Airlines acknowledged the delay but did not specify the nature of the technical problem.
"Biman Bangladesh Airlines confirms that Flight BG436, operating from Cox’s Bazar Airport to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, landed safely at 1510hrs in the capital," the airline said.
"The flight experienced a schedule delay due to unavoidable operational and technical circumstances. All passengers and crew members arrived safely without any problem," it added.
The national flag carrier also apologised to passengers for the inconvenience and reaffirmed its commitment to passenger safety and operational standards.
However, the airline's statement did not explicitly confirm whether the aircraft had declared an emergency or provide details of the reported technical malfunction.
There was also no immediate official confirmation of the number of flights affected by the temporary runway restrictions.
The incident raised operational concerns at HSIA, where runway availability is critical to maintaining uninterrupted domestic and international flight schedules.
