Biman official arrested over alleged visa fraud, human trafficking

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh police has arrested a Bangladesh Biman official named Mohammad Akhlasur Rahman on charges of human trafficking and migrant smuggling to Italy using a fake Schengen visa.


The THB (Prevention of Human Trafficking) unit of the CID arrested him from Nilakhia Bazar in Bakshiganj Police Station area of Jamalpur district at around 3:30 am on June 16.


This information was given in a press release from the CID unit of the Bangladesh Police today.


The name of the arrested person is Mohammad Akhlasur Rahman (40), father- Mohammad Amirul Islam Mondal, mother- Maleka Begum. His permanent address- Bakshiganj, Jamalpur and current address- Ashkona, Dakshinkhan, Dhaka.


Mohammad Akhlasur Rahman is working as a Junior Officer, Ground Service, INS Gate at Bangladesh Biman Airlines.


The press release said that according to the complaint of the case, under the lure of jobs and a better life in Italy, they made a deal of 30 lakh taka each with 02 members of the human trafficking ring. According to the deal, the victims paid 20 lakh taka each. Later, the ring provided them with Nepal-bound and Italy-bound air tickets, boarding passes, and Italian Schengen visas.


On May 26, 2026, the victims left for Italy on a Bangladesh Biman Airlines flight. After arriving at Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci International Airport in Italy, the country's immigration authorities checked the Schengen visa attached to their passports and identified them as fake. Later, they were detained and kept in custody for 02 days and sent back to Bangladesh on May 28, 2026.


After returning to Bangladesh, the victims provided detailed information about the incident during interrogation by the Immigration Police, CID, and other agencies. The investigation revealed that the human trafficking ring had deceived the victims by providing fake visas with false promises of legal employment abroad and had embezzled a huge amount of money. Later, a case was registered at the Airport (DMP) Police Station under the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling Act.


During the investigation of the case, the THB Unit of the CID, with the help of intensive investigation, intelligence analysis and information technology, obtained information about the involvement of Mohammad Akhlasur Rahman, an official of Bangladesh Biman Airlines, and was able to arrest him. The CID's investigation activities are continuing to identify and arrest the mastermind and other associates of the human trafficking ring.


The THB Unit of the CID is currently conducting the investigation of the case. It has been reported that the CID's investigation activities are continuing to identify and arrest other members involved in this fraudulent ring.


The CID has called for following only government-approved and legal procedures for employment, immigration or travel abroad. At the same time, the CID has requested that anyone with any information about human trafficking, fake visas, migrant smuggling, or similar crimes be notified immediately.
