British High Commission warns against fraudulent marriages for UK entry

The British High Commission in Dhaka has issued a strong warning against the fraudulent marriages aimed at obtaining entry into the United Kingdom.

The warning came through an awareness video published Friday on the High Commission's verified Facebook page.

The dramatised video depicts a conversation in which a man tells another person that a woman is willing to pay Tk 20 lakh to marry him as a means of travelling to London—Tk 10 lakh upfront and the remaining Tk 10 lakh later. The other person responds pointedly, "Do you really think they (UK authorities) don't check fraud marriages?"

A High Commission official then appears in the video with a direct message: "We check all relevant information. Fraudulent marriages can lead to serious consequences—including visa refusal, entry bans, and prosecution."
