To enhance civil aviation security in the
country and ensure compliance with international standards, the Aviation
Security (AVSEC) Division of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB)
organized a two-day workshop.
Held on May 3 and 4, the workshop
focused on the Airport Security Programme (ASP) and preparations for the
International Civil Aviation Organization’s Universal Security Audit Programme
– Continuous Monitoring Approach (ICAO USAP-CMA).
According to a press release issued by
CAAB on Monday, 40 officials from eight airports across the country
participated in the workshop, which took place at CAAB headquarters.
Under Bangladesh’s National Civil
Aviation Security Programme (NCASP), it is mandatory for each airport to
develop a written ASP and obtain approval from CAAB.
During the workshop, various stages of
the “Model ASP Checklist” developed by CAAB were presented in detail. The sessions
aimed to strengthen airport security operations in line with international and
national standards and to provide participants with a clear understanding of
regulatory requirements related to aviation security.
The chief guest at the event was CAAB
Member (Security), Air Commodore Md Asif Iqbal, BUP, ndc, afwc, psc, GD(P). The
keynote presentation was delivered by Deputy Director (Chief AVSEC Inspector),
ICAO Auditor and Certified Instructor, Mohammed Alamgir.
Other speakers included Director (AVSEC
Policy and Certification) Iftekhar Jahan Hossain, Senior Consultant Group
Captain (Retd.) Khan Shahinul Bari, Assistant Director (AVSEC Policy) Abdullah
Al-Mahmud, Assistant Director (AVSEC Training) Sharmin Khanam, and Security
Officer Md. Ariful Islam.
In his speech, Asif Iqbal stated that
the preparation and regular updating of the ASP would facilitate internal
quality control at airports, ensure compliance with national regulations, and
help achieve conformity in the upcoming ICAO audit.
The organizers noted that such
initiatives would continue as part of efforts to ensure a safe and secure air
transport system through collective action.
The International Civil Aviation
Organization (ICAO) is scheduled to conduct an aviation security audit in
Bangladesh from October 26 to November 6 this year. Since the last audit in
2018, there have been significant changes in ICAO requirements and procedures,
making the upcoming audit an important milestone for Bangladesh’s aviation
sector.
Earlier, on April 5, 6, and 7, 2026,
CAAB’s AVSEC Division organized three workshops on the preparation of
“Supplementary Station Procedure (SSP),” attended by 65 representatives from 36
foreign airlines operating in Bangladesh.
