CAAB launches ‘Aviation Security Week’ at all airports

The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has launched a nationwide “Aviation Security Week 2026” to strengthen security at the country’s airports, ahead of an upcoming audit by the UN’s aviation agency.

The programme is running from October 13 to 15 at all domestic and international airports, CAAB said in a press release on Wednesday.

It aims to improve security systems, raise awareness, and ensure preparedness in line with international standards. The initiative is also part of preparations for the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) upcoming Universal Security Audit Programme—Continuous Monitoring Approach (USAP-CMA) audit.

This year’s theme is “Security is Everyone’s Responsibility: See Something, Say Something”. It stresses the shared role of security personnel, passengers, airport staff, agencies, and other stakeholders, and urges people to report any suspicious object, activity, or potential threat to the authorities.

Under the programme, awareness campaigns are being run among airport staff and passengers on security rules and protocols. Authorities are also encouraging a positive attitude towards security, active participation in identifying and preventing risks, and a security-conscious culture at airports.

Drills and exercises are being held to test and improve the ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergencies. Briefings and training sessions have also been organised to build the skills of security staff, update them on key security directives, and promote best practices.

“The main purpose of the week is to further raise security awareness among everyone connected with airport security and to strengthen a sense of collective responsibility,” said Air Commodore Md Asif Iqbal, CAAB Member (Security).

“We want everyone to follow security rules properly from their own position and stay alert to any possible risk. This will make airport security more effective and robust,” he said.

“At the same time, we will be able to provide the highest quality service to passengers and ensure a safe, orderly, and comfortable travel environment for them.”

CAAB said the initiative is expected to play an important role in the continuous improvement of the country’s aviation security, in keeping with international standards, and in ensuring a safe flying environment.
