China Southern Air Logistics has launched a twice-weekly cargo service linking Shanghai with Oslo, the capital of Norway, via Amsterdam, providing China's first dedicated air freight connection to the Nordic country.

A Boeing 777 freighter carried nearly 100 tons of Norwegian fresh salmon to Shanghai Pudong International Airport on August 20, marking the debut of the route. The service is expected to bring about 200 tons of Norwegian fresh salmon to the Chinese market each week.

The new route is designed to support the transport of time-sensitive goods in both directions. Salmon and other seafood will be flown to China, while return flights can carry e-commerce shipments, general cargo and other goods from China to Norway and the Nordic region.

According to China Southern Air Logistics, its cold-chain operation will provide temperature-controlled handling throughout the journey, including cargo handling, customs clearance and distribution at Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

STRONG DEMAND FOR NORWEGIAN SEAFOOD

Norwegian seafood is already seeing strong demand in China. Norway exported 178,000 tons of seafood to China in 2025, worth about 1.3 billion US dollars, according to the Norwegian Seafood Council. Salmon accounted for the largest share, with exports to China reaching 90,906 tons.

The Oslo route adds to China Southern's international freighter network, which already connects Chinese cities including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Shanghai with major European and North American destinations.
