Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (Dhaka airport) has witnessed cancellation of 367 flights over 11 days due to airspace closures across seven Middle Eastern countries following security crisis in the region.
On Tuesday, this was informed through a press release sent by Muhammad Kawsar Mahmud, Assistant Director (Public Relations) of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB).
Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan closed their airspace on 28th February 2026 due to deteriorating security situation in Middle East. Closures have severely disrupted flight operations affecting thousands of Bangladeshi passengers.
Flight cancellations began with 23 on February 28 and peaked at 46 on March 2. Operations remained heavily affected throughout first week of March, with 40 flights cancelled on March 1, 39 on March 3, and 28 on March 4.
Second week saw continued disruptions with 36 cancellations on March 5, 34 on March 6, and 28 each on March 7-8. Total reached 33 cancellations on March 9.
Ten airlines operating from Dhaka have been affected. Kuwait Airways cancelled 2 flights on 10th March alone. Air Arabia operating from Sharjah cancelled 4 flights, matching cancellations by Gulf Air from Bahrain, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Jazeera Airways from Kuwait, and flydubai.
Bangladeshi carriers also faced significant impact. Biman Bangladesh cancelled 3 flights while US-Bangla cancelled 3 flights on 10th March, bringing daily total to 32.
Airlines affected include Kuwait Airways, Air Arabia, Gulf Air, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Jazeera Airways, flydubai, Biman Bangladesh and US-Bangla. Disruptions have particularly impacted Bangladeshi migrant workers, business travellers and families with connections to Gulf region.
Airport authorities confirmed cancellations will continue until regional airspace restrictions are lifted. Passengers are advised to contact airlines directly for rebooking and refund information.
