Bangladesh is seeking to expand employment opportunities for its workers in Qatar, with a particular focus on creating greater access for skilled and semi-skilled professionals to the Gulf nation’s labour market.
Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman raised the issue during a meeting with Qatar’s Minister of Labour Dr Ali bin Saeed bin Samikh Al Marri in Doha as part of his official visit to Qatar.
The meeting focused on strengthening labour and manpower cooperation between the two countries, alongside workers’ welfare and protection and prospects for widening employment opportunities for Bangladeshi nationals.
The discussions placed particular emphasis on expanding opportunities for skilled and semi-skilled Bangladeshi workers as Dhaka seeks to diversify overseas employment and enhance the participation of trained manpower in international labour markets.
During the meeting, Al Marri acknowledged the contribution of Bangladeshi workers to Qatar’s economy and development.
Bangladeshis constitute an important segment of Qatar’s expatriate workforce, with workers employed across different sectors of the Gulf country’s economy.
Both sides expressed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation in the labour and manpower sector, including efforts to create greater employment opportunities for Bangladeshi workers.
