Vietnam Airlines will launch direct flights between Dhaka and Hanoi from next month, marking a significant boost in bilateral connectivity between Bangladesh and Vietnam.
Vietnam Ambassador to Bangladesh Nguyen Manh Cuong announced
the development while speaking to reporters at the Vietnam Embassy in Dhaka on
Monday evening. Direct air service aims to strengthen people-to-people contacts
and economic engagement between the two nations.
"The Vietnam Airlines will start direct flight to Dhaka
from next month," Ambassador Cuong said. He termed the move a significant
step in expanding ties between both countries.
Dhaka and Hanoi are currently finalising a renewed Air
Services Agreement that will provide the legal framework for expanded air
connectivity. Ambassador expressed hope that both sides would sign the
agreement by December 2025.
"We are working at the final stage. I hope that we will
be able to sign the agreement by this month," Cuong added during the
briefing.
Ambassador noted that direct flights would open new avenues
for bilateral trade, tourism and investment. Enhanced air connectivity will
facilitate easier travel for businesspersons and officials between Bangladesh
and Vietnam.
Service launch reflects growing momentum in bilateral
relations between the two Asian nations. Direct route eliminates the need for
connecting flights, reducing travel time and costs for passengers.
Vietnam Airlines operates as the flag carrier of Vietnam.
Introduction of Dhaka-Hanoi route marks the airline's entry into the Bangladesh
market, expanding its South Asian network.
