Dhaka Regency to mark Bengali new year with daylong cultural festival

Dhaka Regency Hotel & Resort will host a full-day Pohela Boishakh celebration on April 14, the hotel announced Tuesday, offering a programme of folk performances, children's activities, traditional cuisine, and festive stalls to mark the Bengali New Year.

The event, running from morning until 9:00 PM, will transform the venue steeped in Bengali cultural heritage, with activities catering to guests of all ages.

Festivities from Dawn to Dusk

The celebration will open in the morning with a Boishakhi Kids Art Competition, setting a creative tone for the day. Children's activities throughout the event will include canvas painting, face painting, interactive art zones, a bioscope, balloon shooting, and appearances by a joker character, alongside a mehendi festival and fuchka stall.

Adult guests, meanwhile, can look forward to live folk performances featuring baul songs, flutes, and Puthi melodies—traditional musical forms that form the backbone of Bengali cultural identity.

Henna art stalls, a bangles corner, and festive photo booths will be available throughout the day for guests wishing to mark the occasion in traditional style.

A Feast of Bengali Flavours

A Boishakhi lunch buffet will be served from noon, priced at BDT 5,555 per person. The spread will feature panta-ilish—fermented rice with hilsa fish, the signature dish of the Bengali New Year—alongside shutki bhuna, shorshe bata begun, chingri malai curry, and an assortment of traditional and international dishes with sweet accompaniments.

An evening Bangaliana buffet dinner will also be available at BDT 5,555 per person, with a group package allowing four diners for BDT 11,111. The hotel is additionally offering a Buy One Get One Free deal for selected cardholders, Dhaka Regency Premier Club members, and members of the Dhaka Regency Group's social media community.

A Cultural Landmark on the Calendar

Pohela Boishakh, observed on April 14 this year, is among the most widely celebrated occasions in Bangladesh, traditionally marked by colourful processions, open-air fairs, and communal gatherings that draw participation across all sections of society.

Dhaka Regency positioned the event as an opportunity to celebrate Bengali heritage "in style, tradition, and togetherness" within a curated hospitality setting.
