Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has imposed a nationwide ban on drone flights until February 15, effective immediately.
CAAB issued the directive on Tuesday through a public notice signed by Muhammad Kausar Mahmud, Assistant Director of Public Relations. Ban applies to general public and private entities across the country.
Law enforcement agencies and defense forces remain exempt from the restriction. Government and private organizations conducting research, surveys, agricultural activities and monitoring operations can apply for special permission through CAAB with clearance from all relevant agencies.
Broadcasting requirements for government-organized events will also be considered for exemption on a case-by-case basis following proper application procedures.
Violation of the ban will be treated as an offence under Section 24 of the Civil Aviation Act 2017. CAAB warned that individuals flying drones without authorization during this period will face legal action.
Notice did not specify reasons behind the temporary prohibition. However, such restrictions are typically imposed during periods requiring heightened security measures or national events.
Authority urged drone operators to comply with the directive and submit applications through proper channels if flight operations are essential for approved purposes. All applications require clearance certificates from concerned agencies before CAAB grants permission.
Ban covers recreational, commercial and hobbyist drone activities nationwide. Professional operators requiring drone use for legitimate government-approved work must obtain advance clearance before the prohibition period ends on February 15.
