Egypt announces mandatory transit visa for Bangladeshis

Egyptian authorities have made transit visas mandatory for Bangladeshi citizens travelling through Egypt, effective immediately following new directives announced on today.

Embassy of Arab Republic of Egypt in Dhaka issued notice stating transit visas must be obtained through Egyptian Embassy in Dhaka before travel. Travellers must hold valid passports and applicable visas or residence permits for their final destinations.

Updated guidelines specify Egypt must feature as transit point in traveller's itinerary. Entry will be subject to standard immigration checks, including verification that individuals are not listed under any entry restrictions.

Embassy urged all travellers to secure required transit visa ahead of time to avoid potential complications during journeys. Consular section provides detailed procedures and further information for applicants.

However, embassy clarified that previous provisions allowing visa on arrival for holders of valid visas from selected countries remain in effect. New transit visa requirement is intended for longer transit stays and will be valid for up to 72 hours after issuance.

Move affects thousands of Bangladeshi travellers who use Cairo as transit hub for destinations across Middle East, Europe and Africa. Many Bangladeshi expatriates and migrant workers regularly transit through Egyptian airports en route to Gulf countries and European destinations.

Travellers are advised to contact Egyptian Embassy's consular section well in advance of planned travel dates to complete visa formalities. Additional documentation requirements and processing times should be confirmed directly with embassy officials.

Change represents significant shift from previous arrangements where Bangladeshi passport holders could transit through Egypt without advance visa requirements under certain conditions.
