Emirates ranked first among the world's airlines for international capacity in August, deploying more than 31 billion available seat kilometres (ASKs), according to data from aviation analytics firm OAG, reported Gulf News.

The Dubai-based carrier's international capacity was around 21 percent higher than second-place Ryanair, which recorded about 25.7 billion ASKs for the month, the data showed.

ASKs, a standard measure of airline capacity, are calculated by multiplying the number of seats available for sale by the distance flown.

United Airlines placed third globally with roughly 22.8 billion ASKs, followed by Turkish Airlines with about 21.5 billion. Qatar Airways ranked fifth with around 21 billion ASKs, while Delta Air Lines came in sixth with approximately 17 billion.

British Airways followed in seventh place with 15.9 billion ASKs, ahead of American Airlines at around 15.7 billion. Air France ranked ninth with a comparable capacity level, while Lufthansa rounded out the top 10 with about 15.3 billion ASKs.

The figures place Emirates, which runs an extensive long-haul network through its Dubai hub, well ahead of rival international carriers in capacity deployed during August. The ASK metric is particularly reflective of long-haul scale, as it accounts for both seat numbers and distance flown.

The ranking comes as Dubai's aviation sector continues rebuilding following disruption linked to the US-Iran conflict, with UAE carriers restoring international capacity as passenger demand gradually recovers across key markets.

Emirates has resumed flights between Dubai and Kuwait after an extended suspension tied to the conflict, though services have not yet been fully restored. Despite the disruption, Gulf airlines and airports have worked to rebuild schedules and adapt operations to the changed post-war environment.
