Etihad Airways and Etihad Rail have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore an integrated air-rail travel network across the UAE, the two companies said in a joint statement Tuesday.

The agreement was signed at the Arabian Travel Market and brings together the UAE's national airline and the operator of its national rail network with the aim of building an integrated mobility system to support tourism, economic diversification and sustainable transport, according to the statement.

Under the memorandum, the two organisations will examine ways to simplify travel between Abu Dhabi and other parts of the UAE, including studying dedicated shuttle services to connect Zayed International Airport with the Mohammed Bin Zayed City Passenger Station, easing transfers between the airport and the rail network. The partnership will also explore integrated air and rail booking systems and station-based passenger services aimed at creating a more seamless end-to-end journey for travellers.

Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer at Etihad Airways, said the airline brings millions of visitors to Abu Dhabi each year and that the partnership reflects a shared ambition with Etihad Rail to strengthen the emirate's standing as a global destination. He said the two companies would explore new ways to connect air travel with destinations across the UAE, supporting tourism growth and convenience for travellers.

Azza AlSuwaidi, Chief Operating Officer at Etihad Rail, said the UAE continues to build an integrated national transport system under the country's leadership, and that rail and aviation integration is central to the future of mobility. She said the railway operator has worked to strengthen connections between UAE cities since launching passenger rail services earlier this year, and described the partnership with Etihad Airways as a further step toward integrating rail and aviation to support tourism and sustainable development.
