Etihad unveils "Beyond Borders" guest experience and new A330neo cabins

Etihad Airways, the national carrier of the United Arab Emirates, has launched a new product and experience platform called Beyond Borders, unveiling redesigned cabins for its incoming Airbus A330 fleet as part of a broader overhaul of its guest journey, the airline said in a statement Monday.

The new A330 cabin made its world debut at the Arabian Travel Market, featuring redesigned First, Business and Economy interiors built around a signature design language that Etihad said will progressively extend across its fleet and premium spaces. The airline is also bringing the same design approach to its A321LR aircraft across all three cabin classes, aiming for greater consistency across its single-aisle and widebody products.

Etihad said the A321LR, which already offers First suites and fully lie-flat Business seats on a single-aisle aircraft, has exceeded the airline's expectations, with passengers actively choosing to fly on services operated by the type.

According to the statement, Beyond Borders extends beyond seating and cabin design to lounges, ground services, dining, amenities, wellbeing and connectivity, which the airline said will increasingly form part of a single connected guest proposition. Etihad also said it is expanding its First Class offering, with plans to increase the number of First seats across its fleet over the next five years.

The airline said it is investing $20 billion in new aircraft and customer experience upgrades, including a $1 billion fleet retrofit programme.

"Beyond Borders is becoming visible in the moments that matter most to our guests. It is showcased in the aircraft they fly, the cabins they enjoy, the lounges they explore and the service that connects every part of the journey," said Antonoaldo Neves, chief executive officer of Etihad Airways.

"The A321LR showed what is possible when we challenge the expected model of narrowbody flying," Neves said. "We brought First and fully lie-flat Business to a single-aisle aircraft and guests have responded strongly to the experience it offers, actively choosing to fly on the aircraft."

He added that the airline's new A330 "brings Beyond Borders to life with an all-new cabin experience," while the design language is being extended to the A321LR "as we create greater consistency across the Etihad journey." Neves said the airline is "doubling down on First, bringing an exceptional First experience to our new A330 and increasing the number of First seats across our fleet over the coming years."

According to Etihad, the new A330 will enter service from September 2027, with 15 aircraft joining the fleet over five years to support growth on regional and medium-haul routes.

The aircraft will offer a three-cabin layout: four First suites with closing doors and space for a companion, each featuring a 32-inch screen, wireless charging and a personal amenities station; 24 fully lie-flat, forward-facing Business seats with direct aisle access, sliding doors and 17.3-inch screens; and a 252-seat Economy cabin with 13.3-inch touchscreens, personal charging and a 32-seat Extra Legroom section offering four additional inches of pitch.

The airline said the A330 will serve high-demand routes across Europe, Asia and the Middle East, bringing its full premium cabin offering, including First, to those markets. Etihad's existing First Apartments and The Residence suite will remain exclusive to its A380 fleet, the statement said.

Etihad described the new cabin design as rooted in Abu Dhabi, built around a concept it called "from sand to superstructure," drawing on the emirate's landscape and architecture. The airline said further details on how Beyond Borders will shape its lounges, dining and other guest touchpoints will be revealed in the coming months.
