Expat found dead in Lakshmipur

Body of returning migrant worker discovered in sand field two days after disappearance during election night


Lakshmipur police recovered the body of a returnee expatriate worker from a sand field in Raipur upazila on Saturday morning, two days after he went missing on election night.


Deceased Sohag Mizhi, aged 30, was son of Tajul Islam Mizhi and resident of Lalgazi Mizhi Bari area in Raypur. He had recently returned from abroad and was earning his livelihood by driving a battery-powered auto-rickshaw.


Police found the body near Patwari Road in Sonapur Union No. 4 around Saturday morning. Local residents spotted the body in the sand field and informed authorities.


Family members reported that Sohag left home on election night and had been missing since. After searching various possible locations, relatives and locals discovered the body and alerted police. Family members later identified the body as Sohag's.


Officer-in-charge (OC) of Raipur Police Station confirmed the body has been sent to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination. Exact cause of death remains unknown at this stage.


“After receiving the post-mortem report, the exact cause of death will be known. The matter is being investigated seriously and legal action will be taken”, the OC said.


Investigation is currently underway to determine circumstances surrounding the death. Police have not ruled out any possibilities pending autopsy results.
