Former Chief Executive Officer of SriLankan Airlines, Kapila Chandrasena, was found dead at his residence in Kollupitiya under suspicious circumstances, police said.
Police Media Spokesman ASP F.U. Wootler said that Chandrasenaâs body was discovered at No. 37, Pedris Place, Kollupitiya. According to the spokesman, the former CEO was found hanging inside the house early Friday.
The discovery comes a day after Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama issued a warrant for Chandrasenaâs arrest over allegations that the bail conditions imposed by the court had been violated through the submission of unsuitable sureties.
Earlier, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption had requested the Colombo Chief Magistrateâs Court to revoke the bail granted to Chandrasena and remand him until the conclusion of the trial.
The Commission alleged that the former airline chief had violated the conditions of bail and breached the trust placed in him by the court by producing two unsuitable sureties before the court.
Chandrasena was a central figure in the investigation involving the 2013 deal to purchase 10 aircraft for the national carrier, a transaction valued at over $2 billion.
Police said investigations into the death are continuing.
