Four expatriate Bangladeshi workers were killed in a road accident in Saudi Arabia on the highway between Taif and Jeddah, according to a statement from the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment.

The statement said the accident occurred late Sunday night when a Toyota Innova lost control approximately seven kilometres past the Ridwan Bridge on the Riyadh-Taif road, near Al-Hawiyah. All four occupants died at the scene.

The victims were identified as Karim Uddin, Khalid Mia, Amin Mia, and Shah Alam. Citing Arabic-language accident documents, the ministry said all four were confirmed to be Bangladeshi nationals from the Sylhet district, with Karim Uddin and Khalid Mia hailing from Kanaighat upazila in Sylhet. The bodies are currently held at Al-Muwayh Hospital in Saudi Arabia.

Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury and State Minister Md  Nurul Haque expressed deep shock and grief over the accident. 

In a condolence message, they said the Bangladesh Embassy in Saudi Arabia is maintaining continuous contact with local authorities and that the government will ensure the swift repatriation of the bodies as well as necessary state assistance and compensation for the bereaved families.

The minister and state minister prayed for the salvation of the deceased and for strength for their families to bear the loss.
