Govt. approves Probashi Kallyan Foundation law draft, offers TK 10 lakh loan

Information and Broadcasting minister Zahir Uddin Swapon said that government has approved draft of Probashi Kallyan Foundation Law 2026 and introduced easier access to loans up to TK 10 lakh for students seeking education and work abroad, officials said on March 25.

He said this on Wednesday’s press briefing at secretariat.

Swapon said, Expatriates remain key source of remittance after garments sector. He said draft law has already been prepared, calling it ‘crucial for national economy’.

He added that loan conditions through Probashi Kallyan Bank have been relaxed so that students can learn foreign languages and access overseas opportunities.

Previously, on Tuesday, state minister for expatriates’ welfare Nurul Haque Nur said that loan facility will support students travelling to South Korea, Japan, China and Germany.

He explained that loan will act as bank solvency support rather than direct cash, without requiring traditional collateral.

Nur said that easier process will help students who previously struggled with complex banking requirements.

Government also confirmed that students can take loans up to TK 10 lakh without collateral for higher education abroad. Officials said language skills, especially Japanese, can increase employment chances significantly.

On crisis response, government has arranged accommodation and meals for nearly 2 thousand stranded expatriates at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport through Wage Earners Welfare Board and hotels. In addition, 186 Bangladeshis stranded in Iran and 280 from Bahrain have been brought back at government expense. Bodies of two citizens, dead in Middle East conflict, were also repatriated with full state support.

Nur said that ongoing Middle East conflict may have short-term impact but reconstruction will create new labour market opportunities for Bangladesh. Government is also working to fix migration costs for Singapore between TK 2 lakh and TK 3 lakh, reducing current high expenses reaching up to TK 16 lakh.

Officials said discussions are ongoing to reopen labour markets like Malaysia and expand consular services in Bangladesh to ease visa processing.
