Govt forms 8-member panel on airport security

The government has formed an eight-member committee to recommend measures to improve security at airports across the country, according to a Cabinet Division notification.

The notification, issued by the committee affairs wing of the Cabinet Division, set up the “Committee to Formulate Recommendations for Improving the Security System of Airports”. The document is dated October 13, 2026.

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed is the convener of the committee, while the members are the Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister, the Chief of Air Staff, the Home Secretary, the Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division, the Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary, and the Inspector General of Police. The Cabinet Secretary is the member-secretary of the committee.

The notification says the word “secretary” in the committee’s composition includes senior secretaries.

The committee has two months to submit its recommendations. It also said the committee may co-opt additional members if required and will meet as necessary.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism will provide secretarial support.
