Govt. plans 'Flying Academy' alongside airport in Bogura

The government will also set up a flying academy in Bogura, along with an airport. The academy trains pilots born in the country to serve the country’s growing aviation needs. Afroza Khanam Rita, the Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism, made the announcement on Monday.

Speaking to journalists at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital, she made the comments following the first session of the second day of the ongoing District Commissioners (DC) Conference.

The minister said she is scheduled to visit Bogura on the 7th of this month to inspect potential sites. In addition to the airport, she said that the proposed flying academy would offer pilot training opportunities, with a particular emphasis on talented students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

"Our country is experiencing a substantial shortage of pilots who are proficient," she stated. This initiative aims to ensure that meritorious students from low-income families can fulfill their dream of becoming pilots. She also confirmed that a new airport is being planned for Thakurgaon.

The minister stated that Bangladesh's tourism potential is untapped in every district. Along with numerous other districts, she observed that infrastructure development has been prioritized in locations such as Monpura and Netrokona.

She assured that the ministry would extend full cooperation in implementing proposals received from the district level. District commissioners have also been directed to ensure the safety and security of visitors at all tourist destinations.

The minister underscored the necessity of protecting the cleanliness of the sea beach and enhancing the overall tourist experience in Cox's Bazar.

Additionally, she encouraged the private sector to contribute to the nation's tourism sector's expansion.

Minister for Cultural Affairs Nitai Roy Chowdhury and State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M. Rashiduzzaman Millat were present on the occasion.
