The cost of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport expansion project has been increased by Tk 847.58 crore under its proposed third revision, taking the total estimated cost to Tk 22,213.10 crore.

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved the third revision of the project at a meeting held at the Secretariat. The revision also proposes extending the project deadline to June 2027.

The airport expansion project was among 12 projects approved at the ECNEC meeting, with the combined estimated cost of the 12 projects standing at around Tk 15,713 crore.

The Third Terminal project began in July 2016, with an original completion deadline of June 2022. Its deadline has since been extended several times. Under the latest revision, the project period is proposed to be extended until June 2027.

According to documents from the Planning Ministry, the project was initially estimated to cost more than Tk 13,610 crore. Under the second revision, the cost rose to Tk 21,365.52 crore.

The third revision puts the proposed project cost at Tk 22,213.10 crore — an increase of Tk 847.58 crore from the second revision.

Under the third revision, government funding has been set at Tk 5,115.97 crore, while project loans will account for Tk 17,097.12 crore.
