Indian airlines extend Saudi flight cancellations

Four Indian airlines have extended their flight cancellations to Saudi Arabia, citing the security situation there, Gulf News reported.

Air India has cancelled all flights to and from Riyadh, Dammam, and Jeddah until October 20, according to the report. IndiGo has extended cancellations covering Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, and Madinah until October 24, inclusive.

Air India Express has also extended its suspension of flights to and from Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam until October 20. Akasa Air has suspended flights to and from Riyadh until October 24 and to and from Jeddah until October 21.

The airlines said they were monitoring the situation and putting passenger and crew safety first, the report said.

Air India said the cancellations were “in view of the evolving situation in Saudi Arabia”. It said it was continuously assessing developments to decide when operations could safely resume. Affected passengers are being offered a full refund.

IndiGo said it is notifying affected customers using the contact details given at booking. Passengers who booked through travel partners have been asked to contact those partners directly.

Air India Express said it would continue to monitor developments and “proactively review and adjust” its operations as needed. It is offering affected passengers free rescheduling or a full refund if they cancel. It has advised passengers to check flight status on its website and keep their contact details up to date.

Akasa Air said its decision followed an assessment of the prevailing security situation in the Middle East. Affected passengers can choose a full refund, which the airline said would be credited to the original payment source within seven days, or reschedule at no extra charge. Those who booked through travel partners should contact them directly.
